002: Lead Yourself: The Key to Grounded Decision Making in Business

Working Hard on your Business? Great! Keep being busy...

Are you busy right now? How long is the list you’re working through? Being busy in business is sure sign of success right?  No one wants big gaps in their day.  Being busy means you’re being productive. Productive means success… eventually… right?

Being busy seems to have become a badge of honour.  Hustling away in your business to get stuff done seems to be the done thing.  Choosing to believe that being busy means eventually we will succeed in business means we often find ourselves juggling balls and spinning plates. Working harder and harder, reading more and more, attending more and more courses, consuming and creating over and over… and yet… the business profit balance doesn’t shift.

The answer? Keep going! Push harder…

The Badge of Honor: Hustle Culture in Business

From our days at school, through to the job we go aftewards, someone has been telling us that effort is important.  Keep striving. Keep trying. Keep doing. Practice makes perfect! Our culture definitely rewards hard work.

If we take just a moment to reflect on all the tasks you’ve been completing (either in or on your business), and the direct correlation of those tasks to sales and profit… what would come up for you?

How many hours have you spent creating social media posts?  How many hours working on a new product?  How many sales have you closed? Products have you shifted? Workshops filled?

How do you know that you’re spending the right amount of time on the right things? If you’re being productive or just busy? Is this business just a distraction from what’s really important?

The Push for More... Is that leadership?

Have you ever felt like you’re running out of energy for this project? Like your business takes and doesn’t seem to give back?  That your bucket is emptying?

When we fill our days with endless to do list, the tasks on them might well be smothering our creativity and we start to lose sight of our goals.  Being busy doesn’t always mean progress.  In fact, being busy can distract us from where we want to go, become an excuse for not getting there and create a spiral that leads us away from business success.

Lead Yourself Before Leading Your Business

In this episode of Inner Business with Selena Woodward, we get real about being busy. With some short reflection tasks, I encourage you to really think and feel deeply into the way you’re showing up.

We explore what it feels like to be making informed decisions from a place of grounded calm.   Measured, informed decisions that help you work on what needs doing… not on what keeps you busy.

If you’re ready to shift away from being busy and move into a place of grounded leadership in your business tune in.  Lead yourself first.  Listen to this episode and don’t forget to comment and let us know what came up for you.
